1. How does it work?
Facial wrinkles form as a result of muscles groups in our face that cause the skin to crease when flexed repeatedly over time. Smile lines, forehead wrinkles, and crow’s feet are all examples of wrinkles, or lasting skin creases that form over time as a result of our facial expressions.
BOTOX® works by using a naturally occurring protein that relaxes the muscles that cause wrinkles to form on the skin. When the muscles that cause the creases on our face are relaxed, the skin smoothens to restore a younger more vibrant look to the face.
2. How long will it last?
From the moment you receive your first BOTOX® treatment, it usually takes between 1 to 2 days for the muscles to begin to relax, and the maximum relaxation is reached by about 2 weeks. Following your initial visit, the effects of the BOTOX® treatment will last up to approximately 6 months. Some recipients find that their treatment lasts up to 1 year if they have maintained it for a couple years before.

3. Are there any side effects?
At La Vie Health, our BOTOX® treatments are only administered by certified physicians to ensure that your experience at our Ottawa BOTOX® clinic is as quick, gentle, and comfortable as possible. Occasionally some patients develop small, temporary bruising which can be covered with makeup, but you will be able to perform your normal daily activities immediately following treatment.
BOTOX® treatments will not cause your face to go numb, because it does not affect the nerves responsible for sensation in your face. Additionally, our certified physicians use extreme precision to inject the BOTOX® directly into the targeted muscle group to maximize the effectiveness of the procedure without altering your normal facial expressions.
There are no long-term side effects or allergic reactions related to the use of BOTOX® Cosmetic Treatments.
4. How much does it cost?
Receiving BOTOX® treatments is a very affordable way to achieve younger, more vibrant looking skin! At our Ottawa BOTOX® clinic, BOTOX® Cosmetic Treatments are priced at $12 per unit, and a variable amount of units is required depending on the treatment area desired. For example on the lower end of things, upper forehead wrinkles generally require between 15-20 units of BOTOX®, whereas crow’s feet often take 30-40 units.
Additionally, there’s a small fee associated with an initial BOTOX® consultation at La Vie which is then applied as a credit toward treatment.

5. Are you a good candidate?
If you want to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines on your face and enhance your youthful appearance, BOTOX® is a great option! The treatments are a safe, affordable option and don’t require any surgical procedures.
Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not use BOTOX®, nor those experiencing rare neurological disorders such as Eaton-Lambert syndrome or Myasthenia Gravis. Similarly those with allergies to albumin should not use BOTOX®.
